13+ Butterfly Crafts ~ Easy & Awesome!

Image
I am planning our next butterfly unit and decided to make a collection of some of my favorite Butterfly Crafts for kids from around the internet! Some of these are projects we've done and loved and some are butterfly crafts I've seen our friends do and can't wait to try them! I love to pair a butterfly craft with a picture book or science activity. Some of the things I have planned for our kids include butterfly songs and music time, butterfly crafts, butterfly books (I love Waiting for Wings by Lois Ehlert), raising painted lady butterflies, and a few science and art activities I'll share in the next few days. So, without any more introduction, here are my favorite.... Fishing for Letters with {FREE} Fish Letters & Sight Words

The Virtual Book Club's is focusing on a Boat Theme this week, and we're kicking off with a fishing boat letter and sight word activity! You could also do this with a lake theme, ocean theme, or fish theme! In my head, I thought this would be fun to do with those plastic magnetic letters, but I couldn't find any! In the meantime, however, I decided to make some fish with letters and sight words on them. We are working on letter recognition and sounds with one of my preschoolers and sight words with an old...

How to Make a Butterfly Home - Great Science Experiment

Image
A "Butterfly Home" is a super easy to make science project...as we discovered one year when our butterfly science project plans were interrupted! Like we do during many springs, we were raising painted lady butterflies. After the caterpillars started growing we had a family need come up that required leaving town. We knew they would probably molt into chrysalises while we were gone, and we would have to risk moving them into the butterfly home at a time that wasn't ideal. We really didn't have a choice. We arrived back in town late in the evening and found all our caterpillars hanging in chrysalises. We went to grab the butterfly home from the year before, but we couldn't find it anywhere! It seemed very important to transfer them immediately, since it was already outside the normal transfer time. So...we made our own butterfly home with what we had on hand! At first, it felt a little silly, but it ended up working even better than the one we had ...
