Foil Leaf Preschool Art

We're sharing this leaf preschool art project as part of the Weekly Virtual Book Club for Kids' leaf theme this week!

This colorful preschool art project lets your kiddos exercise their fine motor skills while designing a cool leaf, engaging in a unique sensory art experience, and reading a favorite fall book! And it's super easy to set up...I literally spent 30 seconds gathering supplies!

Simple Supplies:

* outdoor area with lots of leaves
* permanent markers
* aluminum foil
* scissors
* paper towels or butcher paper to cover your work area

How to Make Foil Leaves Preschool Art:

1- First go outside and find "inspiration" leaves. Compare their sizes, shapes, and colors. (hands on math!)

2- Choose your favorite leaf. Let your kiddos trace it onto the aluminum foil. Younger preschoolers will need help with this. (I included toddlers in our preschool day and pre-traced a few leaves for them.) If your leaves have big veins, you can place it under the foil and make rubbings onto the foil by rubbing the leaf with a plastic spoon. We had a few kids try this, but most of the patterns were smashed by the next step.  ;)

3- Use the permanent markers to decorate the leaves! This is such a fantastic sensory experience that my older kids couldn't help joining in too! The permanent markers feel so different on foil than any crayons, markers, or pencils feel on paper. You might find yourself needing to make a few leaves too!

4- Display your leaves! I absolutely love making leaf garlands in the fall, (sidenote: check out our sparkly leaf garland) so we hung them on a string for a bit. I couldn't leave them up too long, though, because they kids all wanted them back! They would also look great (and transport easily) on a construction paper background.
