Preschool Dinosaur Summer Camp (or Unit Study)

Image
Summer is coming up, and one of our preschool traditions is to do a "summer camp" at home! We never really planned it that way, but one activity led to another, and one year led to another, and... here we are! As I set up the schedule this year, I'm doubly excited to be doing a dinosaur theme! This fits right in with our Dinosaur Day Celebration (May 15th-June 1st), so we will be sharing even more awesome dinosaur-themed ideas and activities in my STEM group on Facebook . You'll notice that each day comes with a book recommendation. This is because literacy is SO critical for young children! It ties into everything we do with them because it prepares them for independent learning in the future! Since we generally do 4-5 day "camps," I'm setting up the format so that between May 10th and 21st you'll get links to all the activities right here! It would be waaaaay too long to put it all in one article, so this "landing page" will link out to 1...

Homeschool Preschool: What Preschoolers Need to Know

Image
This is our first How to Homeschool Preschool class! The topic for today is: What Preschoolers Need to Know! And, as you read through the "lesson," you will find a link to get this fantastic little checklist for free! Before we get started, it's really important to point out a quick definition here: I consider 2-6 year old children "preschoolers."  This definition is important because this list of skills is NOT one that I'd expect a 4-year old (or even many 5-year olds) to have completed. I think the "kindergarten" year should be spent playing and using every-day learning opportunities to teach these skills. Finally, please read all the way to the end of this article! There is A LOT of good information, and I couldn't just stuff it all in the first few paragraphs! So, let's get started... Homeschool Preschool What Preschoolers Need to Know Preschoolers are delightful in a way no other age group is! Their excitement and energy are contagiou...

Spider Activities for Preschool - Spider Theme

Image
October is coming up, and one of our annual October themes is a Spider Unit! I decided to put together all of the spider activities for preschool I've written about in the past in one spot and...you've found it! I love putting these themes together for you because I think that preschoolers learn best when information is grouped together into a cohesive theme. You can read more about how preschooler brains work here !  Anyway, spiders tie into Halloween just enough that we generally spend at least a week every October learning something new about them and doing a few spider activities too. So here's the collection! You'll find that there's a pretty big variety of science activities, written activities, projects for older preschoolers, and activities for toddlers. There are even a few for older kids that I shared before I started Teaching Without Chairs (which focuses on homeschool activities for kids over 6 years old)! I hope you love them! ...
