Decorating Names Activity/Craft

If you have preschoolers, you probably know one of the most important words in the language is their name! This is a fun activity to practice writing their name, identifying the letters in it, and learning how to spell their name! Plus, it's loads of fun for groups of kids, whether or not they already know how to write their name!

We may have a new favorite activity/craft:  decorating names with...cake decorations!!  I'll share the directions for this fun craft/learning activity in one second, but first...

A quick announcement:  My new Hibernation Ebook is available! It has DOZENS of activities to teach all about hibernation--be sure to check it out!! <3

Now, on to Name Decorating!

Learn to Write Your Name!

Simple Supplies:

* paper
* markers
* glue (or frosting)
* cake decorations
* aluminum foil

Easy How-To:

1- Prepare the paper by writing (or printing) your preschooler's name in bubble/block letters.  Place a piece of aluminum foil under the paper so it doesn't stick to your table--preschoolers tend to use a lot of glue!

2- Let your child fill in the letters with school glue and pour/shake/sprinkle/place the decorations!  If your child is likely to eat the glue, use frosting instead.

While my young preschooler worked on his name, his kindergarten sister worked on sight words (printable from The Moffat Girls).

Everyone had so much fun that they asked to do it again the next day!!

Do you like hands-on learning activities? Do you have a favorite name-learning activity?  I'd love to see it!

Happy Educating,
Carla

This looks like fun. My girls would want to eat all the decorations but they would still have fun using them to decorate their names. What a great idea! Thanks for sharing on We Made That!
This is great, my son will love the idea! Of course, he will want to bake a cake afterwards and decorate it as well. I'll do what it takes for him to learn how to spell his name!!! :)

love this! This is great when you a need a spur of the moment "project" to do with the kids!
We Made That, We had some get eaten, but not nearly as many as I expected, lol!

Tiny Twig, Yes...it did have that effect here, too. Luckily, I like cake!

Yes, Gina, it's very easy to set up and it held their attention longer than many projects!
Just discovered your blog :) Totally loving this idea - saving it for when my little guy is a little bit older!
