Letter N: Net Fishing Game

This preschool Net Fishing Game (for the letter N) can be planned or set up completely impromptu!

It is so incredibly easy to get ready, and you probably have the supplies on-hand.  If you don't, you can easily substitute, as discussed below!

Here are just a few of the benefits of this fantastic game:

* Moves the whole body!
* Reviews the sound the letter n makes (early phonics)!
* Works for rainy days, indoor lessons, or parties!
* Works for groups or one child!
* Exercises coordination!
* Practices balance!
* Practices taking turns!
* Presents an age-appropriate challenge that your youngster can overcome!
* Can be easily adapted to include counting!
* Is LOADS OF FUN!!

So, how does it work?  Well, first you need these

Simple Supplies:

* a play fishing net
* pompoms (We made ours, but you can also buy them!)
* a plastic bowl or basket

Easy How-to:

1.  Set up the fishing net and the bowl next to each other on the floor.  Sprinkle the pompoms around the bowl and net.

2.  Line up your children on the other side of the room.  Instruct them to, when it is their turn, walk backwards to the bowl. Once the reach the bowl they can pick up the net, choose a pompom, and use the net to pick up the pompom.  Once the pompom is in the net, they need to say "nnnnnnnnnet starts with N!" and dump the pompom back into the bowl.  Finally, they return to the group (this time walking forward).

3.  When a child arrives back at the group, he/she "tags" another child for a turn and then sits down to indicate that he/she has already had a turn.

4.  Continue until everyone has had a turn!  Repeat as often as your kiddos want to!

As you can see, the entire game is very simple.  If you don't have pompoms, you can use any small object that is relatively easy to lift with a net and dump in a bowl. And if you don't have a net, try using a napkin, necktie, or a clean fish-bowl net!
