Magnetic Names Apple Picking & Ten Apples Up On Top Activities

These magnetic apples have been loads of fun to practice spelling our names with, and they went with our apple theme and Ten Apples Up On Top perfectly!

Actually, I was chatting with my 9-year old about doing a fun apple themed name learning activity, and she came up with this!

It seems like we always have someone who is working on identifying or writing their name!

Just like our last magnetic apple activity, this took about 15 minutes to set up, and then we left it up like a center or station for a week. The kids came up to it and played with it over and over

To set up your own Magnetic Apple Name Learning Station, cut an apple tree out of a piece of brown construction paper and five-eight pieces of green construction paper. Ours is very stylized because I thought building a "circle apple tree" would be easier! It was quite easy, and it turned out to be super fun for the kids to change the tree's shape while they play with the apples! Double win, lol! I traced each of my pieces with a black permanent marker because I liked how it looked, but you really don't need to.

Anyway, put a magnet or two on the back of each piece of the tree, and get your kiddos to assemble the apple tree.

Make the apples by cutting apple shapes out of red construction paper and writing each letter of your children's names on an apple. I couldn't help adding a green leaf! Laminating these will make them last longer, but is totally optional! I chose not to.  :) Stick a magnet on each apple, and scatter them in the tree! I put our tree on a door because the door was metal, so all our magnets stuck beautifully!

Encourage your kiddos to come and "pick" the apples they need to spell their name! I gave them real baskets, but it would also be fun to use something magnetic so their apples can stick to it as they pick them. Let them assemble their names and practice spelling them! Older kids can spell sight words or spelling words!

When they finish playing with their apples, encourage your kiddos to put the apples back on the tree so that they can "pick" their names later!

Yay for learning to spell our names! (We still need practice...we'll have more name activities in the future!)  ;)  But if you want to see what other apple activities we've been up to (including some awesome preschool apple science), click here for our Apple Preschool Theme!
