Join the 2016-2017 Virtual Book Club!
A few years ago I came across the Virtual Book Club, and I fell in love! We joined in sporadically as time permitted, and had a great time. Last year, I was lucky enough to be part of the hosting team, and our preschoolers loved it even more because it was a regular activity they looked forward to. This year, I'm hosting again, but there is a super exciting new change: it is now a weekly book club event!!
The same brilliant ladies are organizing the Virtual Book Club for Kids: Kristina at Toddler Approved, Kim at The Educator's Spin On It, and Cerys at Rainy Day Mum. In addition, a wonderful team of co-hosts will be posting regular activities every Monday to go with each week's book.
I am so in love with this because it is exactly how we run our preschool time anyway! We focus on a book or two for a week, and enjoy lots of themed activities that tie into that book. I even have a whole preschool curriculum organized by themed book activities! When I found out the VBC was switching to weekly, I was thrilled! We will be hosting an activity almost every Monday right here!
So, how exactly does the Virtual Book Club for Kids work? Here's a quick summary:
1- On Monday, (starting Sept. 12th) all the VBC hosts will put up an activity that relates to that week's book. The activities will also be shared in the Virtual Book Club Facebook Group. {You can pop over and join now...the introductions have already started! Tell them I sent you!}
2- Read the book of the week and do an activity with your kiddos! You can get ideas here, on the other hosts' blogs, or on the Facebook group. We'd love to see a picture of what YOU do too!
That's all! There are lots of ways you can expand it and spend more time with the theme, but reading books and doing book-themed activities with your children is the heart of it all. And connecting with a huge group of book-loving parents and educators is truly delightful!
Every month or two I'll put up a new list of upcoming books so you can plan for them, order them, check them out, etc. Here are the first eight:
