Pinkalicious Preschool Activity: Foamy Color Mixing!
Pinkalicious has been one of our favorite books since my oldest daughter "discovered" it during her preschool years, so we were super excited to have it as this month's virtual book club book! Today, I'm sharing our Pinkalicious-themed foamy color mixing preschool activity!
As a lead-in to this book-themed activity, I asked my 3-year old what color we would make if we mixed white and red. She thought about it for a minute, and then declared, "I don't know...maybe blue?" I asked her if she wanted to do a color experiment with me to find out, and she said, "Yes! That's a great idea!"
So we headed over to the table where I had our supplies waiting: dollar store shaving cream, food coloring, and a pan. Since my pan was clear, I put white butcher paper under it so she could see the colors easily.
I helped her add the white (shaving cream) and she took care of the red (food coloring). This color mixing experiment was ready to go! (I love an easy-to-set-up preschool activity!)
I asked my preschooler what she wanted to stir it with, and she quickly requested a kabob stick. (They loooove those things!) Later she added a spoon.
Much later she reached in with her hands! When the other kids joined us (ages 6-8), they immediately dug into the colorful foam...with their hands!
As we mixed, I asked my 3-year old what color red and white make when they mix together. She quickly declared "Pink!!" Then she made a "pinkalicious ice-cream scoop!"
We decided to try one more foamy color mixing test, probably because my 3-year likes squeezing food coloring and squirting shaving cream out! She added more white, red, and blue. It actually looked very patriotic!
This color mixing preschool activity was inspired by Pinkalicious, this month's Virtual Book Club book!
