This fun science experiment lets your preschoolers explore what it might be like to be an octopus! Did you know that octopuses have NO bones?! What would that feel like?! What are bones anyway? Where are your bones? Have a discussion with your preschoolers about what bones are, where they are, what they do, and what it might be like to not have any. Then introduce this simple science activity! Octopus Science Experiment: Preparation: 1- Draw an octopus on a gallon-sized zip-lock baggie with a permanent marker. 2- Cut a hole, about an inch in diameter (mine might have been a little less), in a paper plate or bowl. This is your octopus "cave!" With your kiddos: 1- Show them the octopus! Ask what they know about octopuses! Tell them that they don't have any bones. How would you walk if you didn't have any bones? My toddler LOVES to join her older siblings to "make things," so this week we joined the rainbow theme with a project specifically designed for her skills: toddler rainbow art! This was perfect for her because it was something she could do independently! This preschool Valentine science project is a variation on one of our favorite science experiments, and it is super easy, requires virtually no preparation, is excellent fine motor exercise, and is gorgeously fun! I also really loved that it was something our preschooler and toddler could enjoy together...it reaches both of them right on their developmental level! STEM activities and STEAM projects are the only way we keep learning through the holiday season, so I am super excited to share these paint exposion ornaments with you as part of the Virtual Book Club's Ornament week! Ever since last year when I saw Sarah's Erupting Ornaments here , I have wanted to try it with paint! And let me tell you...it has been one of our favorite Christmas STEAM / STEM activities so far!!
