Penguin Action Rhyme for Kids!

This penguin themed action rhyme for kids includes a few fun facts about penguins and lots of big ways for preschoolers to move and stretch!

I am working on a collection of action rhymes for kids that preschoolers will love! They are rhyming poems that prompt lots of movement!

We have used them for "brain break" type of activities -- when the kids need to stop what they're doing and stretch, when they get overstimulated and need a break, or when we need a calming group activity, these have been perfect!

Before doing this action rhyme tell your kiddos that you are going to be an animal and see if they can guess what you are. Afterward, talk about a few penguin fun facts.

Penguin Fun Facts:

* Penguins are born in an egg.
* Emperor penguins can grow 4 feet tall and weigh more than 50 pounds!
* Penguin "wings" make excellent flippers in the water.
* Penguins can jump, dive, waddle, swim, and "tobaggan" across ice and snow!
* Penguins can sleep laying down, standing up, or even floating on water!
* Many penguins lay eggs on rocky nests on the ice. The Emperor penguin actually carries the egg around on its feet!

Penguin Action Rhyme for Kids:

I start out small in an egg so round
(bend down and wrap your arms around your legs like an "egg")
Lying on the icy ground.
(reach out and pat the ground)
I CRACK and STRETCH and GROW
(clap hands, stretch, and stand up)
And jump, jump, jump on the snow!
(jump around)

I waddle, waddle, waddle,
and waddle to the sea,
("waddle" around the room)
Where I can swim, swim, swim
so fast and strong and free!
("swim" around the room)

I hope you have a blast cracking like an egg, waddling, and swimming like a penguin!

If you're working on a penguin theme, I have a HUGE collection of FUN penguin themed science, math, and other preschool activities!

I also have a wonderful collection of counting rhymes for kids here!!

AND, this is penguin week in the Virtual Book Club for Kids!!

We're focusing on one of my all-time favorite penguin books: Penguin and Pinecone by Salina Yoon (Amazon affiliate link in image:)

It's a story about a penguin, kindness, life cycles, friendship, and more. I love how it is a fictional story, but can be used to talk about biology and friendship all at the same time.

So, of course, our Virtual Book Club for Kids activities are all centered on a penguin theme too! Check out these fun projects from this week's co-hosts:
