Fizzy Snow Dough Science Experiment!! The name almost says it all! Get ready for a fun, hands-on science project!
We have seen snow dough all over the internet, but my kids love things so much more when they fizz, erupt, or explode! So, we played around with the recipe and fizzing snow dough was born.
It's a little like play dough and a little like snow, but a little different than both. Mostly it's just fun science!
You can make fizzing snowmen with it...
...and fizzing alien snowmen!
You can make little fizzing snow angels.
You can even make fizzing snow puddles!
When we began, we tried keeping everything white. My kids live in Houston and think that snow is always white! But as we played longer, they wanted more color in their snow. They love colorful fizzing experiments!
You can make fizzy snow dough too! Here's everything you need to know!
Simple Supplies:
* baking soda
* dishwashing soap
* water
* vinegar
* squirt bottle
Easy How To:
1- Pour 3 cups of baking soda into a bowl.
2- Add about 1 tablespoon of dishwashing soap and 3/4 cup water.
3- Mix it all together! You should get a nice crumbly dough that will hold together when you squish it. If it doesn't hold together, add a little more water. If it is too wet, add more baking soda!
4- Play with your kiddos! Build snowmen, snow angels, snow fields, or a lake! Add penguins or polar bears! Let your kids go crazy!
5- When they're ready for fizzing, give them a squirt bottle with vingar in it. They'll know what to do.
The best part is that baking soda is super easy to clean up...and vinegar is a natural disinfectant! Fizzy Snow Dough is great for indoor snowy play or outside messy fun! It also provides excellent sensory play and a chance to talk about simple reactions. With my preschoolers, I usually just explain that some things (like baking soda and vinegar) react when you mix them together. This reaction releases carbon dioxide (a gas) that blows up more bubbles!
We had so much fun with our fizzy snow dough science experiment that we are already making plans to do it again!

What is "dishwashing soap"? Is it dish soap, like Dawn? Or is it dishwasher soap, like Cascade? Then do you use liquid or powder form? I tried with Dawn but the result seemed overly loose (and I didn't have any more baking soda.)
Hi Anon! Sorry I just saw this...yes, dishwashing soap is a liquid dish soap (and we do usually use Dawn)! It sounds like you just needed more baking soda to thicken it up. ;) Hopefully you've had a chance to experiment with it some more! <3
