Pumpkin Hammering

One of my favorite Fall activities is Pumpkin Hammering!

We first saw pumpkin hammering at a Fall Festival in our community, and the kids fell in love with it.  We have done it every year since!

It requires very few materials and strengthens the kiddos' eye-hand coordination and fine muscle development while they engage in a real-life nail-driving hammering experience!

Simple Supplies:
  • golf tees (I love the colored ones!)
  • pumpkins (You can use a big one and take turns or give each child their own smaller one.)
  • hammers (We've used both "real" hammers and child-size--they've both work great!)

Pumpkin Hammering

Easy How-to:

1- Optional:  Demonstrate hammering a "nail" (golf tee) into the pumpkin.  This is definitely not required.  If you bring your children to the supplies, they will figure it out.  If you do not already have safety rules, you may want to talk about using hammers and nails correctly first, but I've always had very well-behaved kiddos for this project!

2- Let your children get to work!

Do you love pumpkins? Are you looking for fall activities for preschoolers? If so, you will LOVE my Preschool Pumpkin Theme! I have loads of science, art, math, engineering, and other pumpkin activities in it!

Kids love hammers and nails don't they! We made some rain sticks recently and my toddler was just beside herself that I let her use Daddy's hammer.

This looks like a fun way to teach about hammers. You could even make it a Halloween craft too. Thank you for sharing and for linking up this week to the Thoughtful Spot Weekly Blog Hop.
