FREE Beach Preschool Matching Game

Image
Summer is here, and we just had our first beach trip in MONTHS!! (Honestly, almost a year!)  So, of course, I am excited to share this beach-themed matching game with you (for free)!!  The download link is below. Just print the page twice so you have nine pairs of identical images. Turn them all upside down, and take turns looking for matches!  My kids like to follow traditional "Memory" game rules: On your turn, you turn over two cards. If they match, you keep the cards and get another turn. If they don't match, turn them back upside down. Play until all matches are found. The player with the most matches wins! Or, if your kids are young enough to play without knowing who won, just celebrate the pictures each person collected! You can play this game with your preschoolers, put it in a Quiet Bin for nap time, or put it in a busy bag for when you need a quick activity!  I put most of our printable games in a drawer that the kids can get into whenever they want. ;) CLI...

Well, two of the cards have pterosaurs on them...and even though they aren't dinosaurs, we still love them! My preschoolers love using clothespins! We use them for activities like these, to track their daily schedules, and sometimes just to play with! Obviously, this activity lets your children practice counting and number recognition. Less obviously, it helps them develop a concept of one-to-one relationships, ...

4-Piece Preschool Number Puzzles - Free!

Image
Happy Monday! I love a new week, and I am excited to start this week by sharing a new freebie: a set of 4-piece preschool number puzzles! You can print these puzzles off and use them in a ton of different ways: * Solve them one at a time with your preschooler at a table! * Place each puzzle in an envelope at a number station. Label the envelopes, and let your preschoolers choose which ones to open and solve! * Glue one piece of a puzzle to a file folder to make a file folder game. Place the other pieces in an envelope and glue the envelope on to the file folder * Spread the pieces to 2-3 puzzles out, face-up, on a table, and match the correct puzzles together! * Or use them in any way you like! Not only do these puzzles build problem-solving skills, but they help reinforce number concepts by representing each number in four different ways: one cardinal number, a portion of ten, fingers, and the word written out! I would LOVE to see you use these...

Arctic Animals Math Measurement Activity

Image
One of our new arctic animal  activities was visualizing how big (and small!) some of the animals that live in the arctic really are! We did this math activity with mixed ages, and our older kids were very sweet about giving the younger ones a chance to measure too! The only supplies you need are rulers and the measurements of some arctic animals (which I have for you below)! You can either copy down the list of measurements or just print off the Arctic Animals Mini Poster below! I did start out our lesson with a globe to compare our location with the arctic. Click here to get this Arctic Animals Size Mini Poster ! It's important to keep in mind that most of these numbers are the maximum sizes. In real life, animals (and people) come in a huge variety of sizes! The room we were measuring in was only 24 feet long, for example, so we said that the whole room represented an orca...though the kids were a little put out that we couldn't measure the whole 25 fe...

Arctic Fox Active Learning Preschool Activity

Image
Did you know that an active learning, full-body preschool activity also prepares your child to read? See how this fun winter-themed arctic animal preschool activity also counts as a reading lesson below! I just took an online course through  ChildCare Education Institute (CCEI)  called  Active Learning in Early Childhood.   This course explores how movement and active learning can be used to improve learning in reading, science, math, and other subjects!  (Keep reading for more details on that!)  I seriously loved it! I used my new knowledge from it to design this activity--you can do this activity with one child at home, or a whole group for an Arctic Animals Theme or Winter Unit Study! I did it with my preschoolers at home. First, show a picture (or use a stuffed animal) of an arctic fox like the one below.  Ask what it is. Talk about its characteristics.  Let your preschoolers touch some ice cubes to get an idea o...
